Mitra ('98) Named Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

Following a national search, alumnus Raj Mitra, MD (’98), has been selected to serve as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer of UCF Health.

Dr. Mitra is a nationally recognized expert in rehabilitation medicine and pain management, and has done extensive research, advising and policy work on pain management, including ways to address the nation’s opioid epidemic.

Previously serving as the Senator Robert Dole Professor and Chair at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Dr. Mitra focused on creating and growing clinical and research programs centered around pain management and disability. Overseeing the creation of eight new clinical service lines, Dr. Mitra expanded residency and created clinical fellowship, built a top-ranked NIH-funded research program in both basic and clinical science, and grew the school’s endowments.

He is also editor in chief of numerous textbooks including Principles of Rehabilitation Medicine (McGraw Hill). Dr. Mitra was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair fellowship in 2017 and spent four months teaching and analyzing the incidence of disability in India to identify cost-effective solutions for that nation’s Ministry of Health. He serves as one of three peer reviewers for the Fulbright Program for all medical science related submissions.
